A Guide to Self Tanner

0

Sun bathing may give you the bronze glow that you are looking for, but it also comes with the risk of skin damage due to the sun’s UV rays. Too much sun exposure can lead to sunburn, color spots, or, even worse – skin cancer.

If you want to get a tan, there are a lot of self tanning options that you can try out. With self tanners, you can get the glow that you want without the risk of incurring any skin condition. Tanning salons employ professionals that can help you get the tan that you want. You may choose among a variety of different airbrushing and spraying options that will give your skin a warm glow.

If you would rather apply the tanner by yourself, however, there are a lot of spray-on-tan products that will give the same effect as a professionally applied tanner.

There are different types of self tanners on the market. Before you buy one, make sure that you choose a tanner with just the right color tone; it won’t matter which type you use, as the tone is what is the most important. Try not to get something that’s too dark to avoid ending up with a fake look. Stick to tones that are two or three shades darker than your original skin tone.

You should also pick the tanner with the part of the body you plan on using it on in mind. Spray tanners are best for covering a large areas, like legs and arms. Bronzing powders and self tanning lotions, in the meantime, are best used for small areas like the face.

Before you start the spray tanning process, make sure that the area is free from any obstruction. For example, pull your hair in a bun or in a ponytail if your are going to apply the tanner on your face. This will help you avoid having unsightly tan lines on unnecessary areas.

Gently cleanse and exfoliate the area of your skin where you are going to use your tan-in-a-can. This will help the colorants of the tanner cling to your skin as well as it possibly can. However, skip using a moisturizer because it will only interfere with the chemicals of the tanner.

You can always repeat the tanning process if you want to get a darker tan. Just make sure to use equal amounts of spray-on tan to avoid streaky and uneven skin color. If you end up with a darker color than you prefer, use an exfoliant right after the process. You may also use a toner or an astringent to even out the color.
