Waxing

1

Those who are looking for a quick, though not relatively painless, way to get rid of unwanted hair can try waxing. It is one of the  longest-lasting temporary hair removal processes that have continuously given satisfactory results.

Warm or cold wax is applied to the skin using a spatula. After the whole area is covered, a piece of cloth is pressed on top and the skin and quickly ripped off. This removes all the hair and the dead skin cells in the area. However, you must make sure that the hair is at least half an inch long before you undergo a waxing procedure. Otherwise, it will not properly latch on to the wax and repetitive pulling may be required to get all of them out. Some waxing salons apply a preconditioning lotion to the area to prepare it for the procedure.

If you would rather do the procedure yourself, you can use a do-it-yourself waxing kit that you may get from practically any beauty store. There are various at home DIY wax kits that you may choose from. Make sure to test the wax on a small patch of skin before you use it, to avoid any allergic reactions that you may experience from using the product.

Though this process only gives temporary results, regular waxing treatments can indeed cause hair to stop growing. Regular waxers also notice that they experience less pain and discomfort over time, because the hair follicles grow weaker and weaker every time they are pulled out.

You should also refrain from shaving the same area between waxing sessions. Believe it or not, shaving causes microscopic abrasions on the skin. Wax may irritate the abrasions and cause infections.

People who have low pain threshold may take a pain reliever half an hour before the procedure to minimize any possible discomfort. Avoid going for a waxing treatment when you are not feeling well or when you are having your period. The whole body tends to be more sensitive during these times and your perception of pain also tends to be heightened.  Icing the area will also minimize discomfort and swelling.

Finally, remember to relax during the process (no matter how awkward or embarrassing the situation may be). Remember that you are dealing with professionals. This will definitely help minimize any pain that you may experience from the hair removal procedure.
