Sweat Health: How Saunas Can Be Great for the Body

0

Sauna baths were not invented just for relaxation and skin rejuvenation. They originated from the Aryuvedic tradition, which is an ancient system of medicine from India. They were, and still are, used for healing of the body.

People who have not tried it before may be given to disbelief when told that mere steam from the bath could have an incredibly therapeutic effect on the human body. But this is true. If one knows how the body heals itself, and regulates its functions, then it would be easier to understand how saunas help boost the process.

Body and Sweat

There is only one thing a person does in a sauna bath, and that is sweat. This may not sound like much, and it may not sound pleasant either, but it does wonders for the human body.

Sweating does three things; it regulates body temperature, it cleanses the skin, and it helps get rid of bodily toxins. When heat builds up in the body, the sweat glands are stimulated to release bodily fluids through the pores which act as vents. This is how sweat cools down body temperature.

When sweat is secreted, it washes out dirt blocking the pores. This is how it cleanses the skin. Sweat is generally water in the body. Water helps the kidneys screen the blood away from the toxins one gets from food and drug intake. When water is expelled from the body as urine or sweat, it washes away the toxins with it. This process is how sweating helps keep the body healthy.

How Saunas Help

By causing body temperature to rise through steam, a sauna bath has the same effect on the body as a fever. When a person has a fever, that person’s body is working overtime to kill any viral or bacterial infections. This means that all the vital organs have increased activity. This fake fever created by the sauna can then be thought of as an internal body exercise that promotes organ function and foils the possible onslaught of an infection.

As the sauna bath increases body function, it also boosts one’s metabolism. Metabolism is a process in which nutrients stored by the body are used up in order to regenerate cells and tissue. It is a healing and growing process. Also when one’s metabolic rate is up as in exercise, the sweat glands are also stimulated thereby releasing sweat. And as mentioned earlier, sweating is really good for the body.
